LYNN MILLER
After gaining a Distinction in Jewellery and Silversmithing at Epsom School
of Art and Design, I spent a year’s residency at The P & O Makower Trust
Bishopsland Workshops. Later becoming a Fellow of Bishopsland in 2000.
In 1995 I set up my own workshop on The Ashdown Forest in Sussex. It was
here that I built up my business, complementing this practice by setting up
jewellery making classes for adults.
In 2000 South East Arts granted me an award for a research trip to Cumbria,
to develop a new body of work using Precious Metal Clay.
During 2001-2002 I spent a year travelling around the Western States of
America, before moving to Bristol, where I now live and work. Moving my
studio to a unit at Centrespace cooperative workshops in 2003, and joining
The Association for Contemporary Jewellery, where I enjoy active membership
of the Bristol branch.
I exhibit my work nationwide, stocking many craft galleries, and have taken
part in major shows at Goldsmiths’ Hall & Somerset House.
Artist statement
My
rural upbringing and love of the wilderness inspire my work, which
often focus on creatures, plants, landscapes, forms and textures.
Poetry and tales are also important to my designs, bringing enchantment and
intrigue to my pieces.
I use a mix of traditional craft skills and innovative techniques to achieve
lively results. Allowing the magical nature of the metal to show by
finishing the surface by hand and using oxide to define the surface detail.
My latest work incorporates buttons, bringing colour & femininity to these
highly wearable pieces.
