Kangaroo
Moon are a contemporary celtic band that seduce their audience to jig
about to traditional and trancy dance vibes........ well, maybe better to
present you with their own words .... from their website
http://www.kangaroomoon.com/ ....
Kangaroo Moon weave many strands from world, rock, folk and dance, with
acoustic and electronic influences into a funky, psychedelic, heart-lifting
wall of sound. Trancy, richly melodic and dancey, listeners experience a
sound which unites the body and soul in deep, joyful psychedelia and
elemental dance.
Kangaroo Moon have their roots in the music
people play and the music people dance with. They've played and danced their
way through more than a few permutations of global sound. Well travelled,
extensive touring in Australia and Europe, the band has played Glastonbury
and Womad several times, as well as Phoenix, Guildford,
Mistelbach(Austria)Sfinks(Belgium) Oerol(Netherlands)Maleny & the National
Folk(Oz).

Review of the
event....
This
event was organised by Peter Byrom-Smith and Terry Brett under the banner
'The Pyramid Sage'. Terry has for many years been a fan of York's own
nationally acclaimed poet and musical impersonator Rory Motion. Rory Motion,
a self proclaimed 'hippy' and impersonator of trees and also a regular for
many years at the Cabaret tent at Glastonbury, is also an artist. It seemed
natural to Terry to invite Rory to both show his art at the gallery and
compere the charity night. In the event, many will say that his 30 minute
slot was climax of the show. The 140 strong audience responded gleefully and
intelligently to the cleverly worded observations of Yorkshire folk,
hippies, icons (such as the channel tunnel) and impersonations of different
varieties of trees, interspersed with brilliant adaptations of Bob Dylan and
Pink Floyd songs Osbaldwick Woman on my Mind and Welcome to the Washing
Machine.
Before and after this vintage Rory Motion set, the audience were treated to
well known classic and contemporary pieces adapted for the classic guitar
and performed by Peter Byrom-Smith, with poetry readings by Laughing
Gravy's front man Charlie Stewart, singer songwriter Marcus Green's
renditions of his own material and finally the main act Kangaroo Moon.
Originally an Australian based contemporary folk group, Somerset based
Kanagroo Moon are now best descibed as Anglo/Aussie celtic dance/trance.
Basically they take traditonal celtic jigs and reels and enhance it with the
moody and exotic laid back tones of digeridoo, violin, bazouki and african
thumb piano. The effect switches from trance vibes to irrestible dancy jigs
over pieces that sometimes last twenty minutes.
The evening was a great success in many ways, enhanced by the substantial
stone fabric of the basement, decorated with fairy lights, and the ambient
sounds in the first floor space provided by David Lawrie, composer and
producer from Easingwold.
Money raised for St. Leonard's Hospice amounts to about £200 from a raffle
with prizes donated by York businesses City Screen, Fillans, Wild Hart,
Frances Hilary, One, Woodcarvers, Lina Combi, Yoga teacher Anna Semlyn and
Pyramid Gallery.
Some of those prizes remain unclaimed. Pyramid Gallery owner Terry Brett
thinks that people were having such a good time, they forgot to check their
tickets for the prizes and hopes that they will check the website
www.pyramidgallery.com
to see if their ticket has won
