LORNA GRAVES - artist and sculptor

Lorna studied art at Cambridge College of Art and at Cumbrian College of Art and Design. She won the David Canter Memorial Award in 1991 and the Oppenheim-Downes Memorial Award in 2001.  Her work is represented in public and private collections throughout the world, including the Tate Gallery, the V & A Museum and the Metropolitan, New York.

Lorna was renowned for her raku sculpted bird, animal forms, figures and primitive stone carvings that were inspired by features of the landscape in her native Cumbria, but was foremost an artist and painter; a passion that she continued until her death in 2006. Some 80 pieces of work were bequeathed to Tullie House Museum in Carlisle. The rest are being made available to collectors, from which proceeds will eventually be put towards a lasting memorial.
