Bruce Marks originally from South Africa, has been working at London Glassblowing since 2001, and has most recently become Peter Layton’s principal colourist. He completed his Masters’ Degree at the University for the Creative Arts at Farnham in 2010. He was the winner of the Gold Award in the Glass category of Craft & Design Selected National Awards 2014.
Bruce’s influences derive from his African place of birth and from the work of sculptor Brancusi. His blown sculptural glass pieces achieve an exquisite simplicity that aim to capture the essence of his subjects. Birds, is an ongoing series in which Bruce creates simple abstract forms which allude to bird shapes. Whilst his new Fish series comprises multiple colour overlays that are subsequently cut through for the layers to reveal their internal colours.
