Choughs Return to Cornwall – blown and coldworked glass sculpture by Catherine Hough

In 1947 Cornwall, the last bastion for this red legged crow, witnessed it’s finals successful breeding pair. It was 28 years in 2001 that the Chough returned to breed. Catherine, who was born in the South West, happens to bear the same name if spelled C. Hough. Hence, her strong interest in this particular bird, which she has portrayed in this sculpture. The blown glass form is textured and engraved with a Chough flying, and this sits on top of a blue mirrored base, that also has an engraved bird flying across an estuary.
