Capturing natural textures in cast glass has long been a passion for Max Jacquard, as a glassmaker and an aspiring naturalist. This art involves going into the field with a portable mould making kit. Using a number of techniques to apply a sheet of silicone to special tectures and waiting for a short time till the silicone cures. The sheet can then be peeled off without damaging the surface to which it has been applied. Particularly difficult when used to make a mould of moss!.
The surface is further enhanced by layers of glass powders and ocides to build a patina that evokes the qualities of the original surface. The sheet of glass cast into the open moyld is cooled, coldworked and then bent into a vessel shape in a subsequent firing.
the finished platter is 30cm diameter
