Twists Glass

Michael J Hunter of Twists glass has been in the business for 49 years, initially at Wedgewood Glass where he received ‘The best formal training possible’….

‘The foundations I built working there, in combination with my vivid imagination gave me a fantastic springboard into being an artist. My love of flamboyant Venetian cane work, led me on a quest of self-education. I practiced these techniques virtually every break while at Wedgewood. Needing to learn more I switched from factory to studio work, then in 1998 in partnership with Sue, my wife and manager, we founded Twists Glass. I regularly mix the most difficult Venetian techniques: zanfirico, vetro a fili, latticinio, reticello, tesserae, merletto and murrine together. I really love the challenge this creates. It pushes me from my comfort zone, while expanding my skill level. Since 2006, we have been practicing sustainability within our art, and have drastically reduced our carbon footprint through innovative working practices’.
